Simo Häyhä (1905-2002) is the world's most famous sniper. Through his actions, he has paved the way for later generations of snipers and continues to hold the undisputed top spot in world statistics on snipers.

During the Winter War in Kolla, Simo did his own significant part in strengthening the front line by eliminating more than five hundred enemies. He was rewarded in a number of different ways: Simo was promoted from lieutenant to lieutenant, was awarded the Cross of Kolla, and was honored as the best sniper with a model 28 honorary rifle manufactured by SAKO. Simo also received several other awards during and after the war.

Simo Häyhä was allowed to live two lives: one before the war and the other after. He survived an explosive bullet fired at an enemy attack in the Ulismainen desert and a heavy evacuation trip to a military hospital. After recovering from a serious injury, he was allowed to live a peaceful life.

The author of this work, Tapio Saarelainen, who has worked in the Defense Forces for a long time in sniper training, was able to interview Simo numerous times in order to find out what was the secret of his success as a sniper. Over the years, a friendship developed between the author and Simon, which made it possible to find a new and fresh perspective on the person behind the legend of the Winter War. The book also tells about the significance of Simo Häyhä's teachings and their transfer to the training of today's Defense Forces. Precision shooting also has a place in tomorrow's mechanized, high-tech armies. One shot - one hit is still the motto. That is what we must strive for now and in the future.
